Built in 1969, the Mercure Trier Porta Nigra is a contemporary hotel located opposite the fortified Roman gates in the centre of the historic city of Trier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 106 guestrooms over five floors are decorated in light pastel tones and feature modern furnishings. All are equipped with satellite television, direct dial phones with voicemail, clock radios, minibars and blackout drapes. Bathrooms include shower/tub combinations and makeup mirrors.
The Forum restaurant serves regional specialities in a contemporary setting with views over the Porta Nigra, and Bar Salonga is a traditionally styled pub offering a wide range of drinks and German beers. Guests with laptops can plan sightseeing itineraries via wireless Internet access, available in the hotel's public areas. Multilingual staff at the 24 hour front desk are on hand to exchange currency, look after valuables in the safe deposit box and offer information on sightseeing in Trier.
